This one was a pretty big hit for them and brings back a lot of very fond memories for me. They were true American badasses.

I consider "American Band" one of the greatest songs of all time. The year was 1973, the band had just broken away from long time manager Terry Knight, lawsuits were flying everywhere, and the band desperately needed a hit song. So Todd Rundgren, who produced "We're An American Band" convinced Don Brewer to write a song about what they KNOW, and the places they've been. So, Brewer pinned "We're An American Band", and the rest is history.
