When you come from poor small states, like many SEC schools do, then being a flagship school isn't as big of a deal. NC is a top 10 state in both population and economic diversity. If Florida can have 3 schools with a high level of football pedigree/history then NC can have one. Historically, NC State and UNC can't really even separate themselves from ECU in terms of football prowess despite their advantages. If ECU were in the SEC, ECU would dominate the state. I'm sure that you guys would add Wyoming or North Dakota if they were closer.

ECU may not have the history that most SEC schools do but can you guys really not see that ECU has way more upside than the schools that you guys apparently think we should be in a conference with. We average more in attendance than 5 of those schools combined and our stadium will be at over 60,000 capacity by 2016. We are the only football 1st school in our state. Our game day atmosphere is unparalleled and we have the best BBQ! We have a long history of rising up and beating the nations elite every few years. & we have more in common with other SEC schools than you guys would like to admit. A large, tier 1, football 1st, State school, in a relatively small southern town, with a massive, loyal and passionate fan base, where football is religion.

Go ahead and tell us that we don't belong with you guys but at least let us dwell with our quasi-rejects in the AAC, instead of grouping us with mostly complete rejects and schools that are just coming up to Division 1. We have a winning record against all AAC teams except for one so we should be at the top of that conference moving forward and our aim is for bigger and better things. Our administration and fans will not stop in their tireless mission to ensure that ECU is one day synonymous w/ big time football and we will accomplish it with or without the all mighty SEC! Bank on it fellas!

Speaking as one of the rejects you spoke of, I think Georgia Southern will pass you guys. GS probably has a tougher ladder to climb but the university is one of the fastest growing schools in the country and the football program won its conference in its first year FBS going undefeated, in the reject conference. Winning is a culture there. Winning has its way of creating good things. If Georgia Southern keeps winning, in another 10 years, I think you will see people saying Georgia Southern should be in a P5 conference. You cant ignore winning. I will be interested in seeing if ECU can continue to win the way they have the last 2 seasons. If you guys can continue that kind of pace, good things will happen, but that question still remains unanswered.

You just made a statement out of nowhere East Carolina has an alumni head coach who has proven he can win. We have once again a very talented team this year. Do not question East Carolina and its ability to win with only playing FBS one year. I have been a big ga southern fan until your post just then.

Man O man are you going to hate GS just because of one guy like me? Hey I pulled for EC last year. I thought you guys had a great team, but you havent been exactly that kind of good over the past 20 years. If EC can continue to win over the next few seasons the way they have the last 2 seasons, there probably will be some folks very interested in EC. Like I said its hard to ignore winning.
