Never mind that state open-meeting laws were almost assuredly violated. That state AG owes his job to Cubby Bryant.

All this and a vanilla shake on the side! Not to mention the "guvnah" was "bahr's" dermatologist, so good luck getting any state judicial entity to hear of any charges of the so-called "sunshine law" against "cubby."

That proposal was as sound & solid as a Stevie Wonder concert, I have a copy of it in my house somewhere, that's how (bleeping) impressive it was. Damn bastages sabotaged it for real, with extreme prejudice.

How old are those that are preventing this from happening? How long realistically will they remain in a position to stop it?

Bear died about 30 years ago and he's still got control of the State of Alabama. His son, Jr., is the current medium for this control. I don't know if Jr. begat a III, but if so the Bear will control Alabama for at least another 30 years into the future.

Very strong likelihood there. They'll put Harvey Updyke on the board if it will serve to keep UAB at bay and "in its' place."

You give them too much credit. They'd put Updyke on the board if it guaranteed them championships in addition to the 6,493 that they already claim.

Who cares that he couldn't spell UAB? He'd never have to.

No. I make it a point to call all of them "bammers," because I know it deeply galls a segment of their base. Harvey Updyke is a bammer: ill-educated, ignorant, often literally unwashed with a fondness for cheap alcohol and crystal meth. Often lives in a trailer, or perhaps aspires to do so.

The other, numerically smaller segment are the Bourbons: descendants, literally or more often culturally, of Alabama's 19th-Century slave-holding power class. Trustee Finis St. John IV, scion of a family of Cullman lawyers, is a prime example. They send their children to UAT not so much for the education, such as it is, but for the real education: membership in The Machine:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Machine

Apprenticeship in The Machine leads to seats in the state legislature, corporate boards and, ultimately, the UA System Board of Trustees. Bourbons often practice law, but usually only as a stepping stone to "public service" or the judiciary.

Bourbons scorn bammers in private; bammers are to be ruled, not joined. To be ******, not married. Bammers are a lower form of primate in the eyes of the Bourbons, to be exploited and occasionally stirred to action when it suits their purposes.

The exercise of power is the enjoyment, and it extends to many areas beyond college sports.

Bryant Junior, said to be the son of legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant, is not a Bourbon - his father came from a family of Arkansas dirt farmers. He is tolerated by the Bourbon Trustees but he is most definitely not of them. His cash (accumulated initially by leveraging his father's name to open Alabama to dog-track gambling) is welcome, his presence is not. He is the nouveau barbarian trying desperately to buy his way into the club. He has not and will never succeed.

03-lmfao Too much "bammer" in him!!! 6,493 claimed national titles, that sounds just like them, too.

Didn't our distinguished Mayor proclaim on live radio once that Bryant Jr. was not responsible for the sabotage of the OCS proposal, that he knew who was, but would not say on the air who? Watch where you step...There's bull**** on the floor!

As one of the original club football teams members/officers from the mid 80's, I hope ya'll do make it & they never "impede" your growth but don't think that if they ever perceive you as being a threat to "the precious" in any way, shape or form that they won't start to treat you as they do us.

Was there any renditions of the possible OCS in the proposal?

#FreeUAB

It was based heavily on SMU's Ford Stadium (SMU provided plans and a good deal of advice/consulting).

Had the Trustees not been scurrying to lay in supplies of soap-on-a-rope, there would be no UAB athletics. God Bless AG Griffin Bell and the U.S. Department of Justice.

I honestly don't understand how you all can live in such a backwards place. No offense intended.

A friend once described UAB as "an island of light in a deep, dark swamp of stupid".

I understand, there's just no way in hell I could live there. I've seen all I needed to see there. My wife's mother's side is from Alabama, just south of Mobile in a town named Theodore. Gramma watches the Alabama football team on TV. She's more or less senile at this point so I gave her a pass when she said something to the effect of .... "UAT doesn't tolerate football players' cheating" when the UNC scandal popped up on the news. 03-lmfao

Good points. However, I am pleased with Coach Jones to this point. His alligance seems to be more with the city (he is from Mobile) than UAT. When media guys force him into talking about his days at Bama he quickly change the focus back to USA.

As far as them impeding our growth, I really don't know what they could do since we are no way tied to them and the majority of funding comes from student fees ( as voted on by the students some years ago).

Lastly, you guys are definitely the more established program, but with that being said can we get a home and home? The annual basketball game is one of if not the best OOC game we play.

Like a parasite they infest & control state politics & thus the state so would control university funding. Piss them off & find out how much funding you lose. AU has a strong enough contingent/powerbase (as well as know of a few UAT closet skeletons) that they can hold their own w/ The Machine. If The Machine had it's way no one would exist in the state except them even AU wouldn't be around. Gollum/Precious is the best representation of them as a picture/icon that can be made though someone on BT had a pic of PBJ merged into the Grinch that was awfully close to being another icon.

I wouldn't mind more HnH in fb/bb vs ya'll as I think it's good for the fans/rivalry.

Home of the Bellingrath Gardens. A major tourist attraction and well worth the trip if a big mansion and botanical garden holds any appeal.

The Mobile Greyhound Park (also in Theodore) was an outpost of legal gambling back in the 70s and 80s. I well remember driving to Bayou la Batre, picking up shrimp/crabmeat/etc, and delivering it to the MGP on race-days. I don't know if it's still in business or not. I'm sure the floating casinos have cut into their margins. Plus the public is much more tuned in to animal welfare now than 30 years ago.

When USA was chartered in May 1963, the Alabama legislature specifically mandated that it was to be a racially integrated university. At the time, all college campuses in the state were either all-white or all-black, so that was a big step in those days. I don't know this for a fact, but I strongly suspect that the University of Alabama board-of-trustees didn't want responsibility for dealing with that situation.

Sorry, the only interest I had in that area was possibly buying the pecan farm. They ended up selling it and wife's gramma is living with the in-laws in VA now.

Don't forget you've got one of the annointed as your coach, so they're leaving ya'll alone. As one of the original club football teams members/officers from the mid 80's, I hope ya'll do make it & they never "impede" your growth but don't think that if they ever perceive you as being a threat to "the precious" in any way, shape or form that they won't start to treat you as they do us.

I wouldn't mind more HnH in fb/bb vs ya'll as I think it's good for the fans/rivalry.

this image was one of the two that was merged with the grinch image. It was under my old name and I don't remember the other image of it. That is if you're referring to thing one.

Funny how the Crimson Tide connection even pooh-pooh'ed North Texas several years ago, too.

UNT had hired former UA Coach Gene Stallings as an athletic consultant to make some suggestions for a direction of our program. One of the quotes I will never forget him saying before about 500 of us supporters in one of the Super Pit conference rooms was "North Texas doesn't need to ever worry about building a new football stadium."

Even more amazing was how UNT paid him some serious bucks to utter such lagniape!
