Did Villanova agree to Temple in BE in return for..
adding it's FB program to the BE by 2015 when Navy joins? Just curious if Villanova made a deal or were just out voted.

I suppose the future holds that answer. If Villanova does get their FB program moved up then we may never be told that it was a trade off but considering Villanova could easily be outvoted when concerning keeping the Alliance out of the Northeast, if they did land a deal such as that I would be very impressed with Villanova's bargaining abilities.

I wonder if the deal they made was this-
Temple comes in all sports
for
Villanova allowed to upgrade AND play same place as Temple(Lincoln Financial Field).

Yeah, that would probably be enough to make Villanova's voting buddies not feel so bad about considering voting against Villanova in order to protect the northeast.

i don't see how temple and nova could share the linc, too many games for one stadium. i just dont think the eagles would be okay with it

That is a good counter point but Philadelphia is a massive football town. With Big East games happening during the week the grounds crew could maintain. If the increased cost of grounds keeping doesn't outweight the increase of funds coming in for the linc then do the Eagles even have a say in it?

Let's get innovative! Split the field in two widthways and play Nova and Temple games at the same time on 60 yard fields and count the attendance twice! Smells like a winner, Meatball.

That is what I would have held out for if I was Villanova but at the end of the day what are Nova's options. Leave the Big East for the A-10? Go ahead.

If Nova is added before UMass or ECU in the East- then it is a monumental mistake.

Army should be also in consideration down the road..

You aren't really taking into consideration all of the basketball only big east schools and their desires. Protecting the Northeast will be paramount to them. Temple is a quality basketball program and those basketball schools will not wanting it landing in the Alliance. In that regard they are more valuable then ECU to those basketball schools and UMass is not yet in a position of importance.

I hear you, I however believe that UMass could be a serious power in the future- In the East other than Army changing its mind, I see them as next in Line..

You are right on your other points btw..

Oh yeah, I agree that UMass will be a battlefield between the Alliance and Big East at some point.

UMass I have a feeling will sooner or later become a Big East School..

Army is an enigma.

Air Force will be added..

The West is a 3-Horse between CSU, UNLV, & FS

Things will be very interesting in the future- that said, whoever gets left alone in the MWCUSA after its gutted will have their future viability begin to be questioned..

Well, considering the Alliance is doing the Major Powers a major favor, I highly doubt they are going to stand by and idly watch the Big East attempt to disembowel the Alliance before it gets going or even after. That is complete conjecture on my part but the Alliance is doing a huge favor for the major powers and that is not good for the Big East because it means they will likely get poached more in the future.

Don't think the grass field will hold up either. Don't forget that the Army / Navy game is also played there in December too. Laurie didn't want Temple there when the stadium was built but the mayor / governor Rendell rammed it down his throat because city and state funds were used in the project to build the Linc. Laurie doesn't want any more tenants in the Linc and can fight off a private school in Villanova ( even though I think Rendell is a Nova Law School Grad with some politcial pull).

Philadelphia is a massive PRO football town. Nobody cares about college.

Temple averaged 28,000 last year. Nova averaged 8,780.

Besides, Temple has an exclusive on the Linc until 2017 (they put up $15 million towards construction in exchange for a 15 year lease).

If the Eagles don't want their grass field torn up 12 times a year, it won't happen.

Make Villanova pay for Field turf, problem solved. 04-cheers

This is exactly what I was thinking, but that field is grass if I am not mistaken which would be a lot of abuse. Maybe they can get it switched to turf like every where else with out all the hassle of maintenance 24/7.

I think you seriously have to think about it this way.....is there any scenario where the Big East would block Villanova from moving up?

If Nova is serious about becoming a FBS football program(not the dog and pony show we saw last year because Nova was "convienient") is there anyway the Big East would really stand in their way?

I doubt it. The Big East would accomadate them if they so desired. Obviously, Nova would have to have a better plan than just playing in an 18,000 seat facility.

That said, I don't think the plan is to get to #14 with Nova. I seriously doubt Nova would even be ready by 2015. I am thinking Nova's timeline will have more to do with when the Union Soccer team plans to upgrade PPL on their own. Last were heard....the 1st phase of the 3 phase expansion wasn't supposed to begin till 2014.
