When you consider that that puts a Sun Belt game on every sports bar and football fans' TV across the country every week, it's worth it. the exposure would be great! the MAC has really improved their brand image by doing this, we need to catch up.

Is MT the only Sun Belt school that has had good attendance (relatively speaking) for these weeknight games?

The thing about ESPN or ESPN2 weeknight games is that they end up being a promotional tool for ESPN to tout their weekend games instead of focusing on the game being televised...

Well, except for Southern Miss, Tulane, and East Carolina since 1999. Or Marshall, Tulsa, UTEP, and Rice since 2005.

No 'hint' of a rival indeed--we've got seven existing ones who've made UAB's sporting life interesting.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out!

Yeah I read that link and I think I just read about how UAB was going to dominate Troy once the rivalry was renewed. Needless to say it's 2-1 in favor of Troy and UAB's win was by a single point on a controversial call.

And you might consider those teams rivals but they sure as heck don't consider you a rival in football. Your just that team that that people play and are ashamed to lose to. Have you ever read what your fellow conference mates say about your football team when it's their turn to play you?

In 2007 the administration probably really wanted that game because Troy was still new to FBS and there was no one else fbs level in state for us to play besides Bama and Auburn. Times change huh?

Just because a team is in your conference, that does not make them a rival, at least not in the sense that we are talking.

You're correct. However, after we stomp a mud hole in yalls sorry butts 5 or 6 years in a row and crush your fanbases' collective spirits (i.e. MTSU) yall will hate us more than any other program. THEN, we shall be considered your true rival. 05-stirthepot

I am obviously just picking at ya, so don't take that personally. 04-cheers

This is more the way I see it, when we beat you to keep you from bowl eligibility or to keep you from winning the conference the first few years of our move, then it will begin.

And when the conference championship, or divisional championship runs through Alabama, and we kick your butts back to the wiregrass(is Troy considered to be in the wiregrass) then it will be started.

Until then, we are just neighbors yelling at each other to get their trashcans off the road. 05-mafia

Yes Troy is in the Wiregrass. Also, this is our Conference in football...everyone else is just visiting. 03-thumbsup

edit: sometimes we rent a room out to others. stAte moved in this year, but we still got the bedroom with the private bathroom...they have to share theirs with the rest of yall.

We were just leasing you the house until we moved back to town. Now we will be nice and let you live in the basement if you like. 03-nutkick

I am thoroughly excited to be playing the Sun Belt and especially Troy in football. That's going to be a heck of a series.

Soon there will be two(three? 05-stirthepot) in-state schools for AU and UA to avoid playing 03-melodramatic

Please. You live less than an hour from the stadium. You might miss kickoff if the game is early, but most of those are at 7 Central. I definitely miss kickoff and most of the first quarter if I don't take off from work a couple hours early. It takes us almost 2.5 if we have to stop, and with a kid, we definitely have to make at least one.

While I would hate to miss a game because it is in the middle of the week, the exposure would be nice for the SunBelt.

Getting national exposure all over the country, even if on a minor level like the Deuce, would be a boon.
The people who are watching those games, hardcore sports fans, sports writers (since they need something for their Friday article), and RECRUITS are the first people you have to win over if we want to change the perception of the SunBelt.

If South landed a ESPN2 Thursday night game in Mobile, I would still go.
Probably even Troy since I live in Pensacola.
But the other schools in road trip distance for normal weekend games would be off the table.
But I would be able to watch it on TV.
Not logging on to ESPN360 or whatever they call it now.

PS: It's too bad that stadium in Dothan is way too small. I had fun on the trip there. It would be a wonderful place for a Neutral Field game with those dirty Trojans.

I was just saying that you can make the midweek games easier than some. But I get it. For a ton of folks that live farther away, they'd have to give up a game or be late to it without considering taking off of work. Just messing with you!

We are speaking in terms of arch rivals. If you can't figure out what we mean by that then there is no chance of explaining it to you. Examples of these rivals:Alabama-Auburn, Florida-FSU, Miss-Miss State, Texas-Oklahome. Obviously I am not comparing ourselves to the history that comes along with those rivalry games. Unlike UAb I don't have misconceptions of my program.
