A thousand piece jigsaw puzzle?

This is a 32 school conference made up of CUSA, MWC, WAC, Sun Belt, and MAC schools.

The four divisions are the West, Central, South, and East.

In football, schools play each school in their division once (7 games) and then they play an 8th conference game against a seeded opponent in another division. The winners of the 2 highest seeded games play in a conference championship game.

Each year, the home teams for the 8th conference game flip across divisions. So, for example, one year the West has all the home games for the 8th game against the Central. The next year, the Central has all the home games for the 8th game against the West.

This conference gets you 24 states and schools in the metro area of many large markets: Philadelphia, Miami, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, San Jose, etc.

Conference travel seems reasonable for all schools. All schools would be in the conference for all sports.

I think this conference could get a pretty good TV deal. The networks that are desperate for college sports programming because they are locked out of the bigger conferences would either need to pay well for this conference or be left without programming.

Take Toledo over Buffalo. Still a good market, and when they're winning their fans give a ****. Better overall athletics, IMO. Buffalo has a huge upside but they've never approached making it a reality in 13 years of being in the MAC.

I thought we established that there is no remedy for this, save maybe ODU.

Unless the ACC or Big East picks up ECU, you guys are pretty much stuck. There just isn't an answer for ECU's problem, it is what it is.

No there are options that help. ODU, JMU, MTSU, WKU, GSU, or App would add someone who helps.

I think the big thing for ECU in terms of geography is not so much a team very close by but an east coast time zone team that could be flown to in two or three hours. I think that means in the mid atlantic geography zone so that is why alot of ECU fans talk about Temple, ODU, or etc.

RE: MWC/CUSA map
All things considered, Georgia State is the only one I'd be OK with promoting from FCS at this point. It's pretty easy to get to and we have a lot of alumni in Charlotte. That's an easy away trip for fans and players. They don't really eat into our recruiting base and they've also got a massive market + solid basketball.

Also that 32 team proposal somebody drew up is ridiculous. We might as well be our own division and expect the top 4 leagues to break away ASAP.

A charter flight from Greenville, NC (ECU) to Miami, FL (FIU) would take approximately an hour and a half.

To give you even more perspective, ECU to El Paso is three and a half hours.

I'd be all for adding LaTech and Georgia State, not sure on the third team.

GSU is an FCS school and La Tech is awful across the board.

I know what GSU as I went there for undergrad and they have potential and a huge alumni base.

La Tech helps shrinks our geographic footprint and allows for more fan travel and breeding rivalries.

Our geographic footprint is to spread out to cultivate intense rivalries like you see in the Big10, Big12 and SEC.

GSU shrinks the footprint, because they fill a massive gap in geography between ECU and everyone else. La Tech just tightens geography in a part of the conference where it is already tight. It's good for you guys, but what exactly is La Tech doing for ECU?

This sounds really stupid but I like the sounds of those 2 school names along with Ohio University and Arkansas State a lot better than FIU/FAU.

Not much in the terms of travel but the core of the conference exist in the Gulf South and I don't care for FIU. Maybe Temple/Old Dominion could be the third team added.

Who are better options? I don't care for FIU/FAU at all. Temple? Old Dominion?

Yeah it does. Staying at nine and adding no one would be better than those optioins.

I agree that's where the core of the conference is, but at some point the outliers (us and Marshall) have to have someone added closer to us. There is a whole list of teams that it could be. ODU, JMU, MTSU, WKU, Temple, Delaware, or Ohio are all possibilities.

Temple is the only good choice in that list.

Out of those options I like ODU, JMU or MTSU. I guess it would come down to facilities.

And for the people who actually watch baseball, FIU went 39-20-1 last year and finished #36 on WarrenNolan.com. FAU went 31-25 and finished #53.

Most of the other teams being discussed were well past #100.

Temple is also the only one on that list who would likely say no. At some point someone has to be added somewhere on the east coast, and I know you will say one of the F_U's and those don't help us they aren't even closer to us than UAB, USM, or Memphis. ODU is the best choice by a landslide. Good market, good basketball, and a football fanbase that is ready to explode. They have more upside than any potential candidate. They need to expand their stadium, but they sell more season tickets at the FCS level than anyone outside of us in C-USA right now.
