RE: ESPN HD Kent State vs Robert Morris Game
The P-diddy song is out of this world and should be played pre-game, in game, all game!
On to the basketball. After watching the recording of the game here are my reactions:
1) Getting the offense to be more cohesive is a key to this early part of the season. No doubt Greene is the number one option, but as the announcers on ESPN said, Kent State needs to do a better job of swinging the ball around the perimeter to open things up for Greene (or any big man for that matter). The lazy passes by Porrini and Guyton in particular are killer. They must be able to get into good sets without throwing the ball away.
2) Manns is DI material. I don't mean to be captain obvious, but I had my doubts coming into the season. He can disrupt shots without fouling, he can clearly block shots and if teams don't account for him on the offensive glass, look out. He will bring energy to the building with his throw downs and it seems to me that he is a capable free throw shooter. When he consistently gets to the right spots on defense....look out!
3) Gaines is a big key. The kid can play. He has a nice frame and I don't see him backing down from anybody. Every quality minute that he gives is just going to be huge for Kent State from a depth perspective and a defensive prospective.
4) Guyton reminds me, in some ways, of Youngblood. He can create his own shot, has a nice (not great) jumper and wants the ball. That said, it seems to me he needs to figure out the difference between good looks and simply chucking it. I figure for now he is option number 3 at best when Kent is running what they truly want to offensively. I don't want to see him shooting 10 seconds into the shot clock in close ballgames. Don't get me wrong though, I know he has the ability to go off.
Thats enough for now.
