Tulane was devastated by the hurricane, and may not recover for a long time; speculation has them dropping football. The C-USAabbs are discussing Fresno as a possible replacement......

My money's on LA Tech. I'd be shocked if Fresno agreed to join CUSA.

Geographically.. sure La-Tech is a no brainer, BUT.. Fresno St can bring soooo much more to the table. :bluethumb:

So what? In that case we might as well ask USC to join CUSA because we have as much chance of getting them as we do Fresno..in other words zilch!

No need for hostility and sarcasm, I was just speculating.

I think you should go all out for them. Throw money, etc at them, it just might work. They had to travel to play in ui's fabulous kibbie can of corn dome and I'm sure they'll look for any reason to not ever have to go back there.

Fresno will do anything to get out of the WAC, they hate
it here and would look at any other location. Sad but true.

GO WAC

I'm sure that they would end up in CUSA west if they went to CUSA. What is the incentive? It is no move up for them. That may be the worst division of any conference that is broken into divsions. I can't think of one that is any worse.

CUSA is damn lucky that UTEP is much improved for the last year and a half. If CUSA would have actually gotten what it bargained for (a 1-10, 2-9 UTEP), CUSA west would be as bad as the sunbelt. Why in the world would FSU want to go to CUSA and become a non-factor in the Western US, where they are. IMO they have to keep a western presence. Look what playing in a conf out of it's geographical region did for Idaho, NMSU, and USU. 03-banghead

Fresno can do as they wish but I don't think C-USA would be good for them. They have natural rivals in the WAC in Hawaii, San Jose, and Boise.

Secondly SDBronco has a point. The SBC was tough on USU football. It beat independence, but it is tough to recruit from your area promising games against teams thousands of miles away. I'd say La Tech is the move, if Tulane does indeed drop football.

Were would Tulane go to for other sports? The Sun Belt?

The incentive would be 5 bowl tie-ins and about 10X the TV money. That said, Fresno would be a horrible fit geographically and would have no interest. Maybe if we can get Fresno St (or Boise St) to move to Texas, it would work well.

...Yea I'm afraid I agree, makes no sense geographically or financially. Conference USA would be a lateral move AT BEST. I dont think the conference is strong at all. The bowl tie ins are nice but as far as TV we had all but two games on TV(new mexico state and idaho ). The move is not enticing at all. It's bad enough going to the MWC if they ever change their mind. If they dont who cares, That would be a lateral move as well. they would have to take Boise and Fresno to make it a powerful conference. It they dont, screw them. But stranger things have happened. LT would be a way better fit.

Then East Carolina, Central Florida, and Marshall can travel from the east coast to the west coast in all sports. That would make it truly Conference United States of America (literally!).

Fresno hasn't had a problem getting into bowls. They are a big enough name that they would get an open slot (ie. Poinsettia (sp)) somewhere, even if the WAC bowls went to other teams in a given year. They also are one of the few non-BCS teams that have a good budget already. The few extra dollars they would get would not offset the added expenses.

IMO, Boise and Fresno will stay together. They seem to make each other better.

Look for CUSA to lose a bowl or 2 over the next few years anyway, and the WAC to gain 1.

The Big East will take at least 2 teams from the CUSA east sometime in the near future. I doubt that it will be 2 of the bottom dwellers. I would guess that Memphis would be one that goes to the Big East. JMOHO

La Tech would not only fit in well in CUSA they would probably be a dominant force along with UTEP. That is a team whose team would greatly bennifit from recruiting for CUSA.

I hope La Tech stays in the WAC for the immidiate future although I understand that they need to make a conference change for the long term.

I think it would be hilarious for Fresno to move to CUSA, just because I think it would be the beginning of the end for their football program.

At this point, CUSA may as well a pitch to woo TCU back into the fold. Their school president seems addicted to conference jumping so catch him on a good day and you never know...

FYI, CUSA just signed 5-year extensions on all five bowl tie-ins, and are working on the Houston Bowl as well.

CUSA expanded to 12 in order to qualify for a playoff game and better chance at BCS bowl. The landscape has changed in just one year and the playoff game is unnecessary. Tulane is going nowhere, they will regroup and are in for the long haul. Remember, they dropped out of the SEC and the program went to pot for years. Now that they are in CUSA they WILL not drop out and lose their spot. If, for some reason unknown at this time, they do drop out then CUSA stays at 11. They will not add a replacement. The spot would be held for maybe some team like Fresno or TCU or another of that caliber in the event they are intersted down the road.

FYI, those bowl contracts can be voided if the membership of the conference changes. Just ask the MWC. They actually are bummed they lost the Holiday bowl. They never had that bowl, it was a WAC bowl but the membership of the WAC changed.

I can't see the Liberty staying with CUSA if/when Memphis goes to the Big East. Even in the East people realize that CUSA is weaker than it was before the most recent changes. JMOHO
