Kent State @ Western Michigan
The Golden Flashes are headed to Kalamazoo for Tuesday evening showdown with Coach Dwayne Stephens and the Western Michigan University Broncos. WMU is 6-19 overall with a 2-10 conference record. The only MAC teams that have fell victim to the Bronco Stampede are Bowling Green and the Eagles of Eastern Michigan.
But while all of that sounds great, the Flashes best not look past Western Michigan. Akron, Toledo and Ball State all have very winnable Valentine ball games so this one is a bigun for the good guys.
The biggest problem for the 2022-2023 Broncos has been scoring. While their defense ranks smack dab in the middle of the league, the offense is near the bottom. Hopefully Kent State will smell blood and pour it on on the defensive end. One Bronco who has been holding his weight on offense is Duquesne transfer Lamar Norman. The 6'1 guard is averaging about 18 points per game in conference play. Another bright spot has been Marquese Hastings. The 6'7 junior from Grand Rapids is second in the MAC in rebounding, pulling down 9 per game. Rebounding is something that WMU does quite well, so the Golden Flashes will need to strap it up and get on the glass.
Pretty simple. Beat Western Michigan and remain atop the MAC. Falter and start watching the scoreboard. My $ is on the former (if I gambled, that is).
Kent State 75
WMU 67
It may not be pretty. But that will not be reflected in Wednesday's standings.
GO FLASHES!
