Kent State @ SUNY at Buffalo
The Golden Flashes head east to Buffalo to take on the Bulls this Friday at 6:00PM. The game, which we played at Alumni Arena, will be broadcast on the ESPN family of networks. If memory serves me correct, ESPN2 is the station.

Here we are on February 9th with the Golden Flashes sitting atop the MAC with a 9-2 conference mark and an overall record of 19-5. The MAC is top heavy with Akron and Toledo boasting identical conference records and Ball State sitting one game off the pace. Akron also plays Friday night. They are at OU for a 7:30 tip on CBS Sports Network. Tito and Howie will certainly be joining me tomorrow evening. Toledo is at defenseless EMU on Saturday night and Ball State welcomes BGSU to Whorten Arena on Saturday afternoon.

But, the outcomes of those games are no concern of the Flashes at the moment. Buffalo is a .500 basketball team. They have a 12-12 overall record to go along with a 6-5 conference mark. The Bulls are tough to beat at home (9-3). I always enjoyed the stories that those close to the KSU program told about playing in Alumni Arena. I believe it was Eric Haut, in a postgame interview with Ty Linder, that talked about the sight lines that shooters have to deal with being unique.

Anyway, the leading scorer for UB is Curtis Jones. The 6'5 Sophomore from Indian Hill CC averages 16 points and 5 rebounds per game. On a side note, I have always been curious as to what Indian Hill CC is like. Lots of MAC players seem to come from "the Hill." Just as dangerous is 6'4 guard Zip Powell. The Philadelphia native averages around 13 per game and leads the team in steals with 41.

One nice thing (for KSU anyway) is that Buffalo plays 7 guys consistently with a few guys logging minutes here and there. That may help to offset things as the Flashes get their rotation in order post Gio injury.

I don't know. Its getting closer March which means that games are getting bigger. To me, Kent State is a much better basketball team than Buffalo and has more to play for. If the Flashes pack their defense, knock down some shots and keep their mouths shut, I believe win #20 will come early.
