It would have been a sell out at 60K+

40K yelling Pig Sooie? No thanks

Got him. Generally speaking, the few, and I do mean few, occasions when we manage to get 60K plus in the stands, it's because fans of the SEC school contribute about 25K to that.

Sometimes we get 45-50K when we give tickets to the Boys and Girls Clubs, the Navy base, and allot 20K to Kroger for $5 and a bag of Doritos.

Or when game day comes to town. It is a shame about Tiger fans not supporting the home team. It is a little bit better now but I remember the week after the sold out game when the Tigers beat Tennessee. The very next week the Tigers played East Carolina in the final conference game and last game of the season. Some Pirate fans were sitting near me they had traveled for the big game and wondered where the crowd they had seen on tv the week before was. I told them most of the fans who were at that game were either UT fans or fans of other sec teams and some Memphis fans who only go to games they considered important.

The Pirate fans said this is a conference game. I said I know this is more important than the Tennessee game but most Tiger fans don't see it that way. Things are better now but the reason it doesn't sale out every game is because too many rainy day fans and even too many fans who come to the games still have that attitude. The only real championship a college football team can win is a conference championship. The Tigers have won two: one in the Missouri Valley Conference and one in the AAC. Those are the greatest victories in Tiger football history. I just wish everybody saw it that way and realized how important conference games are. The players sure get it.
