1. O'Brien was a fool to give Candle a long contract extension.
2. We should never pay a new coach more than $500K to start. There are plenty who would take that cash. Paying $1 million doesn't keep a coach from going to a P5 school, so what's the point?
3. Fire the OL coach today. Find some Rocket alum who played at a high level and bring him in for the rest of the year. Candle was forced to get better D coaches, he won't do anything unless O'Brien grows a pair.
4. The #1 thing the new AD has to do is raise money to buy Candle out.
5. Tell Candle he can't call the offensive plays anymore. Duh
Is the million an issue if there are at-risk clauses? MACC-Bowl Win, million. MACC 800,000, .. and something similar for this staff with a solid MAC level base. When it was first announced, I jumped on it and was poo-pooed by pretty much everyone. My contention, a "million" has a perception attached that even 900K does not. The contract was a mistake from the get-go for many reasons. As another has mentioned (sorry I forget who) a million is NOT going to stop a P5 from taking away any coach.
Candle is not at risk of being taken for an HC position. Kehres if he is committed to Candle probably is at risk of being hired away into a hire paying DC. Similar to Freeman from Cinci - ND. If Kehres first priority is his own path, even if Candle does get hired away, Kehres might do better going on the market.
And the easiest way to "get rid" of an employee is to find somewhere they wouldn't mind landing and land them there.
