The real measure of how far back we have come. Was last weeks defense the one we will see going forward? Is Brown THAT good? Will the offense be more creative?
Toledo is not the offensive power of years past. Throw out the 2 trouncing of FCS teams(umass is fbs but not even fcs quality) and they’re averaging about 19pts a game. Toledo’s defense is solid but we can run on them. They don’t hold teams to under their rush yds/game average and they haven’t faced a rushing team( ND only runs 80/game. CSU was best running team at 159/game and Toledo surrendered 211yds). NIU is averaging 220/game. No diverse offense this week. Lots of Brown and Ratdog with some Lombardi keepers.
I have no idea what defense for NIU will show up. But I’ll go with last weeks:
24-21 NIU
UMass vs EMU:
Rushing:
209 yds 6.1yds average 2 TDs
UMass vs Toledo;
Rushing:
23 yds .9 yds average 1 TD
That’s cherry picking. Umass is ranked 190 in sagarin(which is a wack rating system but even so- 190!) EMU is 113th vs the rush. This says more about how bad Umass and EMU are than anything about Toledo. I tend to throw out stats gained against FCS teams or FBS teams ranked 130+. I’d look at how you guys did vs ball state and CSU. That’s the best measure going forward for MAC play.
So how did the Huskies do against EMU?
Decent. 242 yards rushing done mostly to milk the clock. Had a quick 17-0 lead and all but abandoned the pass. EMU had 3 quarters of knowing NIU was going to run nearly every play and still didn’t stop it.
