Who wants to give up a structured advantage? UNC gets to appear in Va every year and in Atlanta and Pittsburgh every other year. They only have to make a trip to Boston or Syracuse once every 12 years. That's a huge recruiting advantage.

The second advantage in the Coastal is that you almost never face a top 15 or better program in your division. Over the last 30 years you get that 27 times with Atlantic Schools, just 8 with Coastal Programs. Keeping State out of the Coastal is just good business for UNC.
