The money wasn't there from the networks for a best of the rest hybrid in 2011. Programs like UConn, Rutgers, Louisville, Cincinnati and USF were unable to command the monetary value necessary to pair with the C7 and keep that model moving forward among the likes of Memphis, Houston, SMU and UCF (and Navy). A hybrid conference with BC, Wake, Syracuse (and whatever leftovers remain) - schools with less alumni, enrollment and brand values - will suddenly compel Big East members to move over and get in bed with football schools (again)?

Being in the Big East has helped Villanova compete annually for national championships. UConn has taken a big step forward with recruiting and fan interest returning to the Big East. For Georgetown, they were one of the drivers of separating from the football schools in 2012.

The Big East is well compensated (and looking to increase its payout). There is little threat of schools leaving any time soon.

If anything, if left out, schools like Syracuse, BC and Wake would be more interested in joining the Big East than starting yet another best of the rest conference.

i understand and you make valid points. Would this time be diffeernt since the elites will have separated themselves from the rest?. Would the gap be great enough

Eventually, I believe so. For the elites, I also think there will be a time (after they make a ton more money than the rest) where the inability of most to have competitive, winning seasons results in another realignment cycle. This will lead to the next shift where more teams are likely added to help balance the revenues with winning and on-field success.

In the end, realignment is never over.
