Is there not a way to maintain that donation money by creating a section in the stadium where there is in seat service. The Point of Sale system that is being used in Ballard is actually the leader in facilitating that type of service, and their brand was actually built on it. In fact, their system is frankly pretty terrible in every other aspect, so the fact that ODU/Aramark decided to go with it makes me wonder if in seat service has always been planned since the opening of Ballard Stadium.

If they sold beer through the Aramark stands, ODAF would be capped at a specific dollar amount in revenue. The current calculation says they would hit that cap after the first two home games. And games 3 through 6 would not add any additional revenue to ODAFs coffers.

As for ticket sales offsetting the lost donations, I don’t see it. They’d have to raise the price of the average ticket and until they start winning more often than not, that seems like a non-starter.

The only sections I could see getting alcohol delivered to their seat is the priority seats and the endzone club level seats, since those aren’t serviced by Aramark.

Now, having said all that, I’ve been told that they are considering requesting a contract re-negotiation with the new president coming aboard. Whether that happens or not is to be determined. But even if they get Aramark to the table, what concessions in the deal would ODU have to give in order for Aramark to lose that leverage over alcohol sales?

I don't think you are understanding me on the seat service. Yeah, Aramark would get the beer money, but ODU could potentially get the same level of donation from the same number of fans by putting them in a section that allows service instead of herding them into a beer garden where like 12 of the million people in there can actually see the game.

That’s a decent idea. You should send that to ODAF. I can mention it to my guy and see what he says as well. I would imagine that would require an even bigger donation than the beer garden one since it would require beer runners.

I think I paid somewhere around $16-$20 for a large cup of beer (perhaps 20 ounces) at the scope - and was glad to pay it to be able to enjoy it while watching the game. There is big money to be had by in-game sales to the broader audience. ODAF needs to figure it out. It’s not complicated.

Please read the thread. It is very complicated given the Aramark contract, our current seating capacity and the revenue generation of ODAF.
