This is pretty cool. Rice athletics has an Olympian as Ahalya Lettenberger has been named to the Paralympic Olympic Games (which take place in Tokyo after the Olympics are over). She'll be competing in the 400 meter freestyle in the S7 classification.

I think it's also neat that Lettenberger competes for the Rice swim team in some of their meets as well. She's a sophomore from Glyn Ellyn, Illinois.

Here's the correct URL: https://riceowls.com/news/2021/6/21/swim...m-usa.aspx

(The original one contained her last name misspelled.)

Also: Here's a 2019 article and video about her quest for the Paralympics: https://news.rice.edu/2019/09/03/freshma...-a-splash/

The Rice news release says Ahalya will be competing in the S7 classification. The Paralympics has an intricate set of criteria to set classifications so the competitions will be fair. The S7 classification (S=Swimming) "is designated to athletes with one leg and one arm amputation on opposite sides, or a paralysis of one arm and one leg on the same side. Moreover, swimmers with full control over arms and trunk and some leg function can compete in this class."
