Not because of injury, but I’m just not convinced he’s that much better than the rest of the QBs on the team. 3 passing TDs, 4 rushing TDs and 6 picks in 11 games at Nebraska. Not many passes above 20 yards.
Again, his QBR rating is over 100, playing as a Freshman against Big10 defenses. And you're comparing him to "the rest of the QBs on the team"? Seriously?
Well you have to remember he also had a B10 offensive line. His QBR can say whatever it likes but those INT numbers and his record aren’t standout. I still think he’ll win the spot. Bloom clearly wasn’t happy with our QB room. Rumor was one of the other transfers was in line to start this season anyway. Jovoni is supposedly too slow reading defenses and can’t make use of his arm talent. If that’s the case we need to convert him to a WR/TE threat because he was one of our better offensive threats with the ball in his hand. Thinking a Kodi Burns at Auburn situation under Malzahn offense.
That's a shame because the arm talent is there. Either way, hoping that the staff selects as QB the young man that gives Rice the best chance to win and that all of talents are utilized effectively. If McCaffery is more Bert Emmanuel than Sam McGuffie (who was also under utilized until he was finally moved to receiver), then that is a very good development. Rice almost (should have) beat Texas at home with Bert.
