I would prefer it be completely unregulated other than only allowing just 1 extra game to determine a league champion. Having a mini-playoff is too much of a safety issue--especially in light of an expanded playoff. However, that would still allow the option of leaving the last week of conference play open so that the schedule could be altered (based on the standings after 7 conference games) to effectively create a "mini-playoff" by using every teams 8th game.
