Took over Orange Bowl Champion squad here at Louisville with 18 returning starters in 2007. The team was ranked #10 in preseason poll. The team finished 6-6 including losing as a 37 point favorite to Syracuse. I believe it still stands as one of the worst losses by a favorite in college football history.
Syracuse Orange (+37) over Louisville Cardinals
Sept. 22, 2007
Syracuse had lost its first three games of the 2007 season by an average of 28.7 points and was taking on a ranked Louisville team that had won 20 straight at home. But none of that mattered on this day. After entering as 37-point underdogs, the Orange took a 38-21 lead in the fourth quarter before holding on to win by three.
Final score: Syracuse 38, Louisville 35
Kragthorpe went on to drive the program into the ground in three seasons. Kragthorpian has become an adjective for terrible coaching in Kentucky.
Haha. I remember that game well. Louisville had lost a game the week before, against I believe Kentucky, and there were a couple Louisville fans on the BE board that week of the game posting stuff like "Sorry Syracuse fans, nothing personal" in their anticipation of the Cardinals taking out their frustrations on the Orange.
I fully expected SU to get scraped up pretty bad by the Cards since we had a HC who was more pathetic than Kragthorpe, Greg (GERG) Robinson.
