If we do go outside the Owl family, I hope we entertain the idea of Tom Arrington, though it’s debatable if he’s a solid fit. The chronicle mentioned that San Jac was in the Juco WS again. Guy just cranks out winners.

Can you elaborate on Childress’ style of play?

It seems to me that he played similarly to WG-Very strong pitching, sometimes lacking on the offensive side.

I guess one distinction might be that Childress has always had lots of “power pitchers” on his staff whereas Graham tended to recruit more “crafty” pitchers, especially toward the end of his career.

Strong pitching point is correct but that’s about all I would say is similar.

Have you seen one of his practices or pre game BP’s? Huge emphasis on effort as opposed to results. Multiple players hurt during both practice and BP when it was entirely avoidable. Pretty sure one is his star players Nick Banks broke his nose or something during BP at Reckling several years ago and that’s not the first time something like that happened according to my Aggie friends.

Not a knock on the hustle mentality but it’s different than the let them play and let the talent speak for itself mentality of the OG.

Yeah, right-- Wayne was a laid back coach who just "let them play". Say what? Childress, like Wayne, built his teams around strong pitching, defense and sound fundamentals. The primary difference was that offensively Wayne was more Earl Weaver, whereas Childress played the small ball game and very aggressive baserunning.
