I grew up on ODU basketball almost 40 years ago. Seen many great games and individual efforts. But even in those times when the team struggled or the opponent weak, I always enjoyed the pre-game mixing with friends over a few beers. Drove up countless times from South of Richmond for that experience - seeing old fraternity brothers, sorority girls I knew, and just mingling. That's been lost to me in recent years. I was never a halftime drinker, all my suds were pre-game, due to the ride home, but that little perk made it worth it to commit to 2 hours each way to attend a game. Sales and customer retention is never about big rollouts of stuff or programs, rather, it is about the fan experience and the little things that make an athletic event worth attending to dedicated fans. ODAF has forgotten that and lost me in the process.
