We now have 2 on the schedule in the next 6 years, we travel to Notre Dame next year (2022) and to Penn State in 2026. I don't mind doing one every 4-6 years but don't want to do like some G5s do and do one or even two every year. You can never have sustained success that way and there are to many H/H out there and good AD can sign. Doing one or two per year is just selling yourself out to pay for your program.
Did y'all not do that in '03 with Kansas State, '04 with Ohio State and '03 and '06 with Tennessee?
Kansas State was a 2-1, Manhattan, KS 03, Huntington WV 2005, Manhattan, KS 2006
Ohio State was 18 years ago and was scheduled in 1994, 3 years before Marshall made their IA debut. Tennessee was a 3-1 that got reduced to just one game because both parties wanted to go in a different direction.
Marshall had a 1-1 with Miami FL for the 2006 and 2008 seasons that was cancelled by Bob Marcum when he took over in 2002. His reasoning was he didn't think Miami would travel to Huntington. I don't hate Marcum like a lot of Marshall people do but I do think letting Miami just walk was a mistake.
Ohio State in 2003 is the only true one and done. And we should have beat them. Lost 24-21 on a last second 55 yard FG by Mike Nugent.
I understand it was a while ago. I'm actually a Vols fan, and was a bit young back in those days to remember exactly how everything worked out. But I do recall UT having a policy that they wouldn't play in stadium with less than 40,000 at that time. Which is why our 2002 matchup with Wyoming was moved to Nashville. Then again, you guys are right at that capacity, so it seems to make sense. I remember that '03 game very vividly. Had just gotten back from the Liberty Bowl watching the Tigers upset Eli Manning and Ole Miss that morning. Stan Hill was a good QB for y'all and I think Darius Watts was his main receiver. You guys almost pulled it off in Knoxville that year. If I'm not mistaken y'all upset top 5 K-State on the road the very next week. Much respect to the Herd program! That K-State team upset OU in the XII title game, only to see the BCS poll still put them in the title game, giving Saban his first title at LSU, while had they had to play USC, would've never happened. That began the luck that has persisted at LSU to this day.
Stan tore his ACL after a chest bump after a TD against you all. We beat #6 K State with our backup qb. Lol
