Chanda Rigby...
This isn't a thread to toot Troy's horn... but instead how incredible of a job Chanda Rigby has done to turn around a basketball program.
Rigby came to Troy in 2012, inheriting a program that had just finished going 2-26. The Trojans also lost to a Division III school that season. Troy had the fifth-lowest RPI in the nation (#338 out of 342). It was a huge rebuilding job to undertake.
So here comes Chanda Rigby, straight out of being a head coach from the JUCO ranks.
Since that 2-26 season, here is what Rigby's record every season since:
2013: 7-24
2014: 12-18
2015: 20-11
2016: 20-13 (SBC title)
2017: 22-11 (SBC title)
2018: 18-13
2019: 22-9
2020: 25-4 (SBC title)
2021: 22-5 (SBC title)
She has taken one of the worst programs in the country, and has turned it into a program that has been winning SBC titles, averaging 20+ wins every season, and beating programs like Villanova and Ole Miss. Just last season, Troy had a #38 RPI with a chance to have gotten an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
It's incredible that Troy has kept her around this long. Not sure how much longer she will stay. But wow, what a coach.
