Baseball: Western Carolina series
Ryan Calvert, our other freshman arm in the running for the Sunday job, will get the nod this Sunday against WCU. You might see a situation where these two alternate weeks as the Sunday guy.

Next week we have a 4-game series with Cincinnati, so that will work out nicely for both Chenault and Calvert.

The Catamounts (4-1) were picked by the coaches to finish 6th in the 9-team SoCon. In the Media Poll, WCU was picked to finish 7th. In their 4-game sweep over Towson last weekend, they outscored the Tigers 47-10.

Baseball Preview: Western Carolina

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The Seahawks continue their season-opening 14-game homestand this weekend with three games against Western Carolina, beginning on Friday at 4 p.m.

UNCW swept VCU last weekend to open the season in grand style while the Catamounts did the same in a four-game sweep of Towson. WCU dropped a midweek test with UNC Asheville and carries a 4-1 mark into the series.

Luke Gesell and Jac Croom were named Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively, by the Colonial Athletic Association. Gesell tossed five strong innings in UNCWs series clinching win against VCU while Croom hit .417 for the weekend.

Brooks Baldwin hit .333 on the weekend, double, triple and homered over the course of the three games against VCU. He had a key triple in UNCW's ninth-inning rally on Friday and led off the second game of the series with a home run.

Landen Roupp will draw the start on Friday for the Seahawks followed by Gesell on Saturday. Freshman Ryan Calvert will make his debut for UNCW on Sunday.
