They aren't getting much now from MVFC, so there isn't a lot lost there. They need to pick up the cost of the extra schollies and increased travel, which probably isn't a lot because they are so "out there," they spend a lot already. I figure a million dollars covers the loss of MVFC money and the extra schollies.
Here’s the thing. Travel would murder them, and while they are successful in fcs and beating FBs teams on a one game basis, the week to week gauntlet I think would be difficult. However, not impossible. We did it.
Let’s look at the existing Indy budgets:
Norte Dame (this is an educated guess based on some digging) $161MM
Army @ $60MM
UCONN $80,900,782
Liberty $44MM (2016- bound to be in the $55-60MM range now)
UMASS $49,461,013
NMSU $28,010,801
If they went indy for football only, I don't think travel would be a lot different than it is now. Because Fargo is so remote, they pretty much have to fly everywhere now.
Yeah, good point. But they would be flying a lot farther.
Yeah, but I don't think that matters so much. Jets pretty much burn kerosene. It might cost $200 extra to fly to Buffalo as opposed to Western Michigan. BFD! I just don't think that distance is much of an issue. Once the bird is in the air, it is cheap to fly.
Jet A now cheap (aroubd $1.30 & had fallem way below $1) because of the virus. Before the virus was ballpark aroubd $2 a gallon. Assuming its going 737 burn rate about 750 gallons an hr. Would be ballpark 2 extra hrs roundtrip flying between those 2 schools, about $3000 ballpark difference in fuel (assuming prices go back up).
For every football charter schools are paying at least in the 5 figures. Is a 2 hr each way charter going to going to be double a 1 hr? No. But will be significantly more. Is anyone paying over 100k for a roubdtrip transcontinental (5-6 hrs each way) charter? I don’t know. (Also will depend on airports flying in an out of). I‘d be curious to see roundtrip charter prices that schools pay for 1-5 hr flights.
