While I agree with the bolded segment above, UCA's situation involves membership in a conference which has a rule prohibiting an affiliate membership in another conference in a sport where their current conference, the Southland Conference, sponsors that sport. The conference rule takes precedence over a "would/could" type situation. It's not a matter of "would not". In the case of the SLC, it's "can't".

Take a look at the article link about the Southland Conference rule passed in 2010. Here are the key points as I see them.
1. UCA is a current member of the Southland Conference.
2. The conference has a rule precluding affiliate membership in another conference if the Southland Conference sponsors that sport.
3. UCA could not be an affiliate member of another conference in a sport sponsored by the SLC.
4. To move baseball means moving everything (which I was agreeing to originally).

Back to the WAC, it looks like UCA might be moving off the list of possible future members. As I recall, there were some posts listing them as a possibility.
