could this be the end?
do i believe drexel basketball in the winter is in trouble? yes...but that seems like the easier question to answer right now and is still far from certain. patriot league and ivy league have only called off fall sports so far. just a matter of time before the bigger conferences call them off as far as i'm concerned.

what are the chances though that we see a major reshaping of college sports? i'm really nervous if i like college tennis, field hockey, and really any sport that isn't football, basketball, and maybe baseball. i'm probably really nervous too if my football or basketball team isn't in a power 5 conference. i feel like there's a reasonable chance right now that college sports as we know them are on the verge of completely disappearing.

and you know what? i'm not sure i'm too disappointed about that. i've been trying to figure out for a long time what drexel is really trying to accomplish with its athletic department. it can't be making money. i'm sure there is added value to an education that includes sports...but i'm sure there are club organizations out there that that could pick up those pieces.

maybe my biggest worry about the caa is apparently drexel is now well represented within its leadership. dr. fry was just named chair of the caa board of directors and dr. zilmer was named chair of the caa athletic directors group. it looks like we essentially have a monopoly over leadership positions. not sure if this rotates between schools and it was our turn or what motivated us to take over.

if there was a school i'd want to come up with an exit strategy out of athletics...i would pick us. we have no experience with football at all so it's hard to imagine they would try to save the conference for football's sake. athletics never seemed like a priority for dr. fry or dr. zilmer for that matter. they could easily be the bad guys because there's no vocal alumni base or media that would give them any flak. ud and jmu fans would go away eventually although i'd be really curious to see what would happen with those types of programs.

i'm just curious if others are as concerned as i am...but like i said...i've grown so apathetic towards our athletic department that i'm not really sure i would miss it. you can use your flosports subscription to watch sprint car racing. other than that i'm not sure what i've gained out of being a drexel fan lately.
