I do think doing only conference schedules makes a lot of sense. It drastically minimizes contact among FBS schools, and allows the conferences to control the testing and safety protocols. It also shortens the season a bit, which will allow the schedules to have more bye weeks. The reason that matters is that if the season does go on, I guarantee there are going to be games that need to be rescheduled due to multiple COVID cases on teams and the need to quarantine.
