Budding WAC rivalries...
I know GCU desperately wanted to be NMSUs rival but IMO the feel is that idea has died on the vine with the series dominance of NMSU. Here are the teams IMO that have potential to have some fun rivalries in the WAC.
GCU & CBU-The feel is there. CBU wants it and GCU is feeling it. With CBUs close win over GCU at GCU arena I think its happening. Same kind of school to with the religious thing going on.
Tarleton State & UTRGV--Well, they are both in Texas. I would think one of them wants to be the team from Texas thats better than the other one.
Utah Valley & Dixie State-Again, both in the same state. Dixie State seems to have decent fans. Maybe they will wake up the Utah Valley dead fan base to want to be the better team and fan base in the state of Utah.
Seattle-No one. Old powerhouse Seattle and NMSU would have been great rivals in the same conference. Unfortunately Seattle does not inspire anyone to want to be their rival. They play in the worst venue in college basketball and they have a mediocre program
NMSU-No one. NMSU is a long established mid major powerhouse that has done well for decades in whatever conference we have been in. GCUs effort to dethrone us has cost Dan Majerle his job. The Havocs are sending less and less people every year to the Pan Am. The fairly close proximity could have turned this into a rivalry but NMSUs dominance over GCU has killed the aspirations of GCU fans. NMSU is no ones rival in the WAC. UNM and UTEP continue to be our real rivals and will continue to be.
Chicago State-I had to go back and edit this because I forgot Chicago State was in the WAC. Yeah, NO ONE.
