Gainwell was a three-star prospect coming out of high school in Mississippi in the Class of 2018. Gainwell, who had only one Power 5 offer, has gained nearly 10 pounds in college and has only gotten quicker and faster as his body has added weight.
After taking a redshirt year in 2018, Gainwell put up 1,459 yards rushing and 610 yards receiving, instantly becoming one of the most versatile backs in college football. He has posted more than 100 all-purpose yards in 13 of 14 games, which included becoming one of the rare running backs to record games of 200 yards rushing and 200 yards receiving.
