I'm referring to the order he signed just before the Army vs Navy football game allowing service academy players to go directly to the pros if they can vs mandatory service time between the two.

I have relatives that attended the AF Academy and West Point. At different times over the years they have been allowed to defer while playing a pro sport so its not really a new thing. Maybe it helps a little but the academic side is similar to the Ivy League and that will never change.
I liked Shaver at W&M and could see him winning here very quickly.

Yeah, you're right in the fact that some of those deferments were allowed but they were always on a case by case basis and to my knowledge there were deals made in which members would serve in reserve status or serve at a later date. I'll have to look closer that the EO and see what exactly changed with it, but I know the Navy is already excited about the possibility of getting better in the recruiting world because those athletes dreaming of pro ball will have an easier route. I'm assuming it would apply to all sports, but not sure. If so, it would surely help the service academies in recruiting basketball players. It's common sense. If you have athletes highly driven to play pro ball, and they know it's just a hop skip and a jump from school A, but school B says "yeah, we can try and see if we can waiver it or defer, etc" that student is less likely to choose school B (service academy). If the EO changed that, that could be a great thing for them.
I agree and hope that it continues to evolve in a positive way for the academy schools. AF and Navy were both ranked in football this year and obviously have to do things the right way on and off the field or courts of play. The NCAA should advocate for this but there is not much money in it for them so it would be a very low priority I think. I have been to some academy football games and they are incredible events that any sports fan should put on their list.
