I'm glad he's practicing well and still has the right kind of court sense and moves, but very surprised that the mechanics of his shot are suddenly off. That shouldn't happen to an outstanding shooter. I wonder if somebody has tried to change his natural shooting stroke in a misguided way.

Sometimes, it's best to just let a guy shoot the way he shoots the ball, if he has averaged 17 ppg. "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." If that was to happen to me, I'd be pretty pissed about trying to shoot differently and failing at it.

But if his shooting mechanics are off for some other reasons, it might be necessary to address those other reasons.

You and I both have thought that Scott should be playing ~ 30 mpg, and I'm sure he agrees with that, unless he can't play effectively.

I had suggested that starting him might help, and if that's what it takes to get him back on track, then perhaps it would help to try him out as a starting guard, design some special plays for him to get him on track, etc.

At a time like this, the player needs more support and encouragement, not less. I hope he'll get everything he needs until he starts to perform better in game situations.
