Johnson & Wales University Wildcats (Charlotte)

JWU's Charlotte campus participates in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) in the EMAC (Eastern Metro Athletic Conference) with four other teams. The USCAA plays non-scholarship basketball. JWU enters Trask Coliseum coming off an exhibition loss on October 30 @ Presbyterian, 95-64, followed subsequently by a USCAA win against South Carolina Faith A&M on Nov 2, 117-62.

JWU is a private, non-profit school of 12,930 students across four campus locations: Providence, RI; Miami; Denver and Charlotte. The Providence campus athletic program participates in D-III, while the North Miami and Denver campuses are in the NAIA. All 4 teams are known as the Wildcats.

The Charlotte team went 21-11 at the USCAA level last season, and acquitted themselves pretty nicely in 4 games against D-I opponents: The closest game was an 86-61 loss to Charleston Southern, and JWU also took on UNCG, The Citadel and Gardner-Webb during the 2018-19 campaign.

It's clear based on their results from last season, and so far this season, that JWU plays at a rapid pace. The team averaged 83.0 points per game for the 2018-19 season. The top 2 scorers on the team from 2018-19 are back for 2019-20 in Senior wings 6-5 Robert Hobson and 6-3 Majerle Poole.

Hobson led the team with 17.4 ppg last season, shooting .395 from the field and .366 from 3-point range. He also averaged 4.2 rebounds and 3.2 assists on the season. So far in 2019-20, he has averaged a more modest 12.0 points as his minutes are down.

Poole, who put up 14.8 ppg, .406 shooting and .338 3-point shooting while averaging 6.2 rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest in 2018-19, is off to a hot start this season. He leads the team in scoring at 19.0 ppg while playing just 20.0 minutes per contest.

Expect a fast-paced contest with JWU throwing a lot of bodies on the court. Thru 2 games they've used 17 different players, with 10 of those players averaging over 10 minutes per contest.
