I was surprised because I had thought that Walnut Ridge was one of the many Columbus high schools that had closed over the years like Columbus North, where former Kent State coach Frank Truitt first made his name. Columbus and the other seven biggest cities in Ohio used to have phenomenal basketball. Now, most of the best high school teams are private or suburban schools and many if not most of the big city schools with storied programs no longer exist. I went to school south of Canton and they once had four high schools, now only one.
