Logic dictates that blitzing when you're opponent has 30 yards for a first down is almost always a better idea than running straight zone and rushing 3, especially in college.

Technically we did blitz. We sent 5 out of a 3-man front. However, the other 6 defenders were backed up to the line to gain, giving up an easy throw underneath that gained about 15 yards and then some missed tackling gave them an extra 5-7 making it an easier 4th down to convert.

Yea we should have had staggered coverage. They weren't going to punt so it was more important to limit their yardage on third down and then just keep them from crossing the marker on 4th down.

That's exactly my thought when re-watching it. Our guys looked like they assumed Minn would punt on 4th down with how that play was defended. Play that 3rd like a normal down, then go with the sticks coverage on 4th down, allow the underneath throw come up and make a play.
