All that said................using the Sadducees as a proxy wasn't the best way to go (imo), as it caused me to wonder how you meant it. In retrospect, it's not inconceivable someone could catch that, but it's really not accurate, either. But I can see the point now . . .

I think your most recent position is correct; we can't know the religious specifics of the people on this board.

I referenced the Sadducees because they used superficial characteristics to determine who should be excluded from "the church crowd." Too oblique, perhaps.
