Loved S1, thought S2 was at least as good, if not better. But this season was awful. It was so dopey, almost like a caricature of its former self. They took all the absurdities and silliness and cranked it up to 1000. Am I supposed to believe the Russians built an ENORMOUS bunker/scientific complex over a mile under the ground and the US government (not the town) ever noticed? How long would it take to construct something like that? Does the USSR even have the ability to build something like that so efficiently? And how much time would it take? Doesn't it take years to build something like that? Hell, it must take nearly 2 years to just build the mall that's on top of it.
Also, can anyone tell me why the Russians wanted to open the gate? Pretty sure that was never made clear.
Just so I'm clear: You're willing to suspend disbelief enough to accept monsters from another dimension and a psychokinetic kid, but NOT scheming Soviets.
Yes, because the supernatural stuff is completely made up fantasy fiction. Even the . But the rest of the stuff is built around some kind of realism. I'll accept that there are monsters from another dimension, but I need the rest to at least be able to somewhat explain the "normal" life that occurs around the supernatural stuff.
I can accept scheming Soviets, but is it not a tiny bit ridiculous that the US Government has no idea what's happening until the very end of the season? Then all of a sudden they show up? What about the fact that at least a dozen people in this tiny town had gone missing and no one seemed to care or even notice, to the point where they were able to enjoy the carnival without a care in the world?
I'm sorry, but just because it's fantasy fiction, doesn't mean the writers can just do whatever the hell they want and don't have to pay attention to any details.
Why did anyone want to open that gate?
The whole premise is kinda crazy to think about it.. But it is what it is, mindless TV.
To build the structure you're referring to, it would take years just for the tunneling.. And yes it would be quite noticeable.
I imagine they originally wanted to open it for the purposes of science. Discovering another dimension, etc etc. But in the aftermath, why would the Russians try to open it? We already saw what would happen. The show tries to tell us it's for some nefarious reason, but what is that reason?
It's the Russians.. Do they need a reason to be nefarious?
