RE: Oats (new UAT coach) willing to play instate schools around the state

To begin the program, we hired a successful BBHC from UCLA (who had been a successful BBHC at 2 or 3 prior schools). Since then UAB has hired a succession of assistant coaches (Davis was practically an interim BBHC briefly at Indiana) with varying degrees of success. The two most successful of these were later hired away by P5 programs.
When you hire assistant coaches to their first BBHC job, it is always a matter of good or bad fortune in your result, made worse by a program's financial constraints. UAB has hired on the basis of who it can afford, not who it would probably prefer.
Past acrimony between the UA System administration and UAB athletics probably precludes any contests between their men's revenue programs, but that is something unique to our state's way of fiefdom mentality rather than common in other states. I don't know of any other state's university administration that has tried to abolish another state university's FB program.
Ugghhh, I can’t believe I’m breaking my rule and getting involved here. Davis coaches Indiana from 2000-2006, including an appearance in the NCAA Championship game.
When you say he “was practically an interim BBHC briefly”—that’s where I quit reading, thanks to a lack of credibility
