But your 40-40-50 puts Navy and Air Force into the "second 40" and Army into the "50". That's NOT the status quo.

It sure looks like from where I sit. All play at the FBS level, the same as the 40-40-50 split proposes. Navy and Air Force currently play in the top two G5 conferences and have a power rating between 41-80. Army plays in no conference, and has a power rating outside the Top 80. Until quite recently, they would have been closer to the bottom 30 than the bottom 50. Where's the difference?

The status quo is now. Look at last year and the year before. The academies are currently where they have been in the long run: pretty much on par with one another.

We've each taken turns on top of the three and we've taken turns on the bottom of the three in the past, but we belong together in any reasonable tiering.
