Painful to watch but skip to the last minute of regulation and see the obvious goal tending not called on Loyola that denied us three straight National Championships. Announcers definitely not on our side! But we did miss a free throw that could have ended it.

I remember that night well. My wife and I will be celebrating our 54th wedding anniversary in July, and it all started with a first date that March evening at Zimmer's Wine Cellar (near today's Rookwood Commons), where we shared a bottle of Dry Catawba. As luck would have it, I found out later that she had been crowned XU's 1958 homecoming queen, so I guess I can take credit for a stealing a great gal from right under their noses.

I also remember the 1961 and 1962 championship victories against OSU and the spontaneous celebrations which ensued. Local breweries, and there were a bunch of them in those days, were handing out six packs on Fountain Square. Good times!

Great story, Hank! Cheers to the two of you.
