yeah even as a winner in conference realignment (Rutgers), its sad. You establish so many great annual matchups and rivalries over the years and then it all gets tossed. I certainly miss playing West Virginia and Louisville in particular because those games were always a lot of fun and when Rutgers finally hit their competitive stride. I miss the hatred towards Syracuse's obnoxious fans as well, and it was nice being able to make short drives/take train to away games against Temple, UConn, St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall, etc. Never got to get our revenge against Miami either when we finally became top 10 ranked and they started sucking during the mid-2000s.
Rutgers sold out sports for the B1G academics.
not really... Rutgers sold out sports to cheapness. They spent the money, achieved something, then pulled back thinking the existing system worked without investing more. They have always had the internal political struggle of "Ivy League" vs "Big Ten" mentality due to the academic leadership deriding sports and ignoring economics.
