Good article, not specifically about this topic, but covering it. Note especially the linked graph showing the libertarian group is the least significant group (4 quads based on economic and social conservativism/liberalism). It shows the Clinton voters mostly in the far SW corner of the graph, far from the Trump voters clumped around the North-Center. It discusses how little different Kennedy and Nixon were on many issues.
