I didn't read it that way. I read it as competing in the NYC area with alums from dozens of top notch universities. I read it as "I can stay in the Houston area as a alum from the only good school, or I can go to NYC and compete with people from dozens of good schools.

Maybe I just have a hangover from the thread on the conference board about where the students from various schools tend to end up. NYC was on a lot of lists.
