That's pretty much been the thought for each of the last 3-4 seasons. He should be gone unless they get into the NCAA tournament. IMO keeping him around is just stunting the program for another year.
Also, on the STF comments...it's not just about this terrible basketball program. If getting alcohol into the stadiums and Schedulepalooza are what you're getting excited about then sure, STF is amazing. What else has he accomplished in the last 5 years? Any new buildings or major upgrades in the works? Any great publicity coming NIU's way? How are attendance figures and customer/fan satisfaction? Is the athletic department handling crucial, but simple things, like a ticket office properly? Are they transparent and engaging with their supporters?
The last 5 years haven't been great economically for Illinois or niu. Enrollment is way down and the state is in financial crisis. Those are not STF's fault. Losing employees will only make the ticket office worse. I don't blame him for the problems we are in.
As far as basketball, let's wait and see how this plays out before jumping to conclusions.
Quit connecting the state's financial woes to what hasn't been happening on the basketball court. Basketball players are not being short-changed pre-game meals, practice and game gear, air fare often in place of a bus, and so on.
The ticket office IS under his control. Perhaps you don't want to blame him for the problems, but then blame him for not creating solutions here instead of picking a fight with UCF and pushing a G5 play-off that didn't have support.
You say as far as basketball, let's wait and see......it's been seven years, what are waiting for? Good God the standard argument was give somebody a chance to have their own players, i.e., five seasons. You keep using the phrase don't jump to conclusions in multiple threads, you still don't see the forest for the trees? Players other than from deep off the bench leaving every year, never getting more than single digit wins in a conference that isn't exactly respected for basketball, unable to get above .500 despite mediocre home scheduling, etc. State financial woes are not an excuse for all the things armour248 questioned.
With or without German and others, how much of an uphill remains to get NIU from the MAC West cellar to even the MAC tourney semis? Yes, you save the buyout money but you lose that many more fans, tickets, concessions, etc., to delay a rebuilding process that is now a necessity. You're throwing more money down a deeper hole. What's the business expression about cutting your losses?
