Why is that unacceptable? What makes you think that yearly conference championships are somehow our birthright? As if other teams don't recruit, prepare or don't count. Finishing second, to me, means we finished above where anyone thought we would. That's a successful season. Sure I would love to go to the "big dance" but the guy's played hard every game. And truthfully, that's all I can ask of them.

Looks like you and some others that are patting you on the back for this comment will be fine with a performance like this over and over again for years to come but for the section of fans that have high expectations it isn't. Expecting or aiming to win a conf championship with a trip to the dance once in a while shouldn't be called elitism, that should be what we should be working towards if not better.
Check out the box scores from ODU vs WKU and Marshall vs WKU they tell what the difference is. We shot 7.7% from 3 pt. and 50% from the line. That's not Jeff Jones fault, is it?

Jeff has two shooters that he recruited to shore up a deficiency the team had in 3 point shooting. The fact that neither of them got into the game is on no one but Jeff. For that matter, they pretty much never got into any of the games all year long. When the team is shooting 7.7% from 3 and the coach is not trying to get some other players a chance - especially one or two that could be expected to be a better shooter anyway - that is solely on Jeff.

The team didn't even get 50 points and Jeff did what he ALWAYS does. He went for defense above anything else, and even in that did a very poor job. He has the team come out playing zone (as he should have given WKU's poor performance recently against the zone and how they had destroyed ODU's man-to-man). ODU goes out to an early 5 or 6 point lead in the first half playing zone, WKU looks out of sync, and what does Jones do .... he switches to his preferred man-to-man and WKU immediately gets life in their offense, starts driving inside, draws fouls, and goes on either a 10-0 or 12-0 run. ODU stays in the man-to-man for most or all of the remainder of the half and WKU has a sizable halftime lead. WKU did nothing to make Jones abandon the zone .

ODU opens the 2nd half in zone and immediately regains the momentum, eventually gets back into the game, and regains the lead late in the 2nd half. Jeff doesn't like playing zone so even though it was working he abandoned it in the 1st half. Big mistake. Jones doesn't like to play freshmen so he left 2 of his best outside shooters glued to the bench when no one was making any outside shots. Big mistake. Those are both solely on Jeff and no one else. When the coach has tried everything within reason and it didn't work then he can start looking around for where to put the blame. That didn't happen.

Spot on brotha!
