Of course the new owner wants to cash in on Hartford considering the Whalers merchandise has remained a Top 5 brand in NHL sales. Karmanos was an idiot for not doing so. Total upgrade in ownership for Hurricane fans.

I sure didn't see any of the Whalers gear in The Eye the last two games I attended, which were within the last week and half. I don't mind bringing back the past for some retro kind of stuff but since this a team that moved from Hartford to Raleigh, a non-traditional market, I would want to blaze our own path with the Hurricanes branding in our area to solidify the fan base of the team/franchise. Making too many ties back to the Whalers makes newcomers feel like they should have stayed in Hartford instead of coming here.

That's fair. But having a single throwback game and/or recognizing your history helps the franchise much more than hurting it. Sales don't lie. Your new owner seems like a much more intelligent businessman.
