Absolutely agree. He also better be having a serious talk with his buddies to never get him into a situation like that again. They let it escalate and then tried to "handle it" on their own. The last thing you need is to be around a bunch of buddies who have nothing to lose - unless they find out he will not tolerate it and they will no longer be hanging out with him.
