Yup everybody is an expert in retrospect.
My candidate was Steve Forbes who is at ETSU (check out his record)...he had been at winning programs both high and mid major...when you are through making apologies for Ehsan go back and check out what I said at the time of Ehsan's hire...Forbes would have been a great catch and everything I (and others) predicted about Ehsan HAS COME TRUE
I heard very little if anything about Forbes back then and he had a SHOW CAUSE from lying to the NCAA. That will cause many ADs to choose someone without a former show cause. Because its basically betting your job he won't get in trouble again.
In hindsight, we probably should have went in a different direction but there were no clear obvious better choices at the time that I saw. Slick Rick cheats and everyone knows it except WKU fans who are in denial. The NBA guy has never been a coach. Laven wouldn't have worked for what we would pay.
There were no clear better choices at the time.
I speculated but did not know that the MTSU coach might have been interested because at the time, MTSU was not showing him much love.
I was not sure how I would feel about that at the time. But he has continued his winning so he would probably have been a good choice.
What happened to Forbes was the equivalent of a blown out of proportion parking violation...he was released with the rest of the UT assistants...after making the Juco championship finals (twice) Gregg Marshall and Wichita State sure jumped at the chance to hire him
All the coaches were interviewed by the NCAA and they all LIED. They colluded to lie. Lying to the NCAA is a huge no-no and all coaches know that very well. (I know it and I'm not a coach)
And the parking violation was just what they could prove.
