RE: We should re-brand ourselves as "757". What are your thoughts?

When your football team goes 5-7 and the basketball team hasn't won the conference or been to the NCAAs in 7 years, it probably isn't a good time to rebrand because it isn't going to work unless you already have a bandwagon.
I do hope there is a plan in place in event that we do catch lightning in a bottle somewhere. VCU, Utah, and TCU really did well making the most out of their opportunities. George Mason, and to a lesser extent Boise State kind of blew it.

Agree with you on most of your examples but take exception to Boise State. If you mean that they couldn't parlay their football success into a better conference, then a) technically they did, going from the WAC to the Mountain West [with an aborted football-only move to the Big East/AAC when it was believed that it could maintain its power-conference status], and b) they are constricted by geography, in which the Pac 12 and Big 12 are the only reasonable options, and lacking academics, which wipes them both off the board.
Otherwise, Boise State has an established football brand that gets higher levels of respect and national TV coverage than most if not all other G5 programs in a given year, and they get an outsize share of conference TV revenues for it. Short of a football invite to a perpetually unstable Big 12, I'm not sure what else they can reasonably do with what they've been given.
George Mason is absolutely an object lesson in how to whiff on a tap-in putt. Maybe it wasn't sustainable but letting Coach L walk sent an unmistakable message to the college basketball world.
Absolutely. Coach L and their past president had many run ins. After his Final 4 run, I heard the president didn't like all the demands from Coach L. When the Miami job opened, the rumor is that Coach L asked to stay but they needed to at least match their offer and they didn't even counter.
